The First Week in October -- News and Events

Preppin’ the Patch!

This Sunday, Oct 1, both CYF and Chi Rho will be ‘prepping the patch’ as we get ready for the pumpkin deluge on Oct 4. We will work to put up the tent, decorate, and assemble pumpkin bread ‘set-ups.’ Also, we are in need of someone with a pick-up truck to help us transport the tent from the church basement to the South Hall lawn. Email Beth (beth411@bellsouth.net) if you can help. Reminder – Youth need to sign up for shifts in the Pumpkin Patch and to bake pumpkin bread.

Pumpkin Patch Unloading

Bring your family, bring your friends, and bring your gloves and wheelbarrows this Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. A prize will be given for the person who brings the most helpers. (Starbucks gift card, anyone?) We will provide pizza for dinner at South Hall, so if you’re helping us unload and will be eating with us, make sure to cancel your 5 Star Dinner reservation. The Pumpkin Patch is our primary youth fundraiser for the year, so we need everyone’s help.

Reminder – All youth need to sign up to work one or more shifts in the Pumpkin Patch. To sign up, contact Kathy Davis (katogran77@yahoo.com).

CYF to Oktoberfest Regional Retreat

High school youth will attend Oktoberfest at Bethany Hills on October 7-8. (Registration deadline was Sept 27). Thom will be driving the church van and has room for 12 people. If you want to ride with Thom, email him (viviansboy@comcast.net). There will be no CYF youth meeting on Sunday, October 8. Jubilation will rehearse at its regular time (4:30-5:30).

Chi Rho Tours Refugee Camp

On Sunday, Oct 8, the middle school youth will travel to Centennial Park to experience “A Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City.” Sponsored by Doctors Without Borders, this interactive outdoor exhibit will help us understand the circumstances of the more than 33 million people in our world who have been forced to flee their homes because of war and conflict. We’ll leave the church at 5:30, tour the exhibit, and then stop at a nearby restaurant for dinner. We will return to the church by 7:00 p.m. Drivers are needed to help transport the kids. Contact Beth (beth411@bellsouth.net).

Chi Rho Fall Retreat

The fall retreat at Bethany Hills will be Nov. 3-5. Registration deadline is Oct. 25. You can download registration forms from the Christian Church in Tennessee website, www.ccdctn.org. Please note that this year the retreat begins on Friday evening.

Health Forms Needed!

Please remember that we need health forms for all CYF and Chi Rho participants. Forms are available in the church office, and they must be notarized. Brenda Lewis, our receptionist, is a notary. We also need a photocopy of your health insurance card.
